Editorial urges a large turnout for the Board of Trade meeting on Tuesday evening at Beavercroft Beav elock to press for city and district recognition. It lauds Hon. F J Carter Cotton MLA for first chancellor of UBC, citing his journalism and political experience as qualifications for the role.
Victoria hosts the Canadian Forestry convention September 1 5 and 6 with a government reception September 1 at the parliament buildings, business sessions September 2 3 and a banquet September 3 at the Empress hotel. Notable officials and lumbermen from Eastern Canada the United States and local leaders expected including Sir Wilfrid Laurier and Hon Allard Campbell Fernow Allen Charlton and others. The event aims to be among the province s most important forestry gatherings.
The Cranbrook Tennis club reports a very successful American tournament. Members are urged to complete all matches by Saturday afternoon to start the annual event. Tea will be served on the grounds Saturday from 4 to 6.

The city public school reopened on Monday with about four hundred in attendance though arrivals continue after summer holidays. Principal Cranston foresees record attendance this term as sixty one primary pupils grow to seventy five soon, prompting use of the new building. Five new teachers join division heads Darkis Bechtel Richards Falkner Macdonald, and Mr Webb will assist in drawing and music classes at the under construction Manual Training School. High school enrollment rises to twenty from twelve.
Leask undertaker is building a 650 by 122 foot brick and cement garage on Norbury avenue for Mr. N Hanson, leased long term to the Kootenay Garage company. It will include offices, showrooms, a large park for autos, a 24 by 36 foot workshop, paint and wash shops, an air compressor, and tire filling. Completion is set for October 15 with prospects bright as the company sold over twenty cars this season.
The fence around Cranbrook's new post office has been removed by contractor McCallum and company. In exchange, the City of Cranbrook agrees to indemnify them against any costs or damages arising from removing the fence and surrounding wooden sidewalk.
The piece warns that houseflies in kitchens may carry thousands of germs and calls on housekeepers to help exterminate this worst enemy of the human race, noting the flies likely feasted on unspeakable nastiness less than an hour before.
The text states costs damages or expenses arising from any accident caused by removal on the sidewalk or cement walk between the sidewalk and building. The city must be notified when the clock is to be put in position.
Henry Gray Stringer and Miss Emily Find lay Priest of this city were united in marriage at Christchurch with the rector officiating. The couple have taken residence in the White addition of the city.

An advertising notice from Beckman and Elliott of Vancouver invites real estate firms and door to door salesmen for a Western Canada campaign. It promises literature and window decorations with a $100,000 budget to improve property and offers a representative to assist locally.
The Knox Presbyterian Church schedules morning worship at 11 a.m. and evening at 7 30 p.m. Sunday School and Bible class are at 3 p.m. The Guild meets Wednesday at 8 p.m. Rev. W. Kelman Thomson serves as pastor.

Exhibits from across the province and possibly the prairie provinces are expected, with C C S furniture prices noted as 20 percent lower than rivals. A Provincial Municipal Commission session will be held in New Westminster on September 18 to review municipal government, councils, voters, and administration, with invites for interested parties to attend.

In the Surrogate Court of Moose Jaw District the Estate of Arthur Bruneau deceased invites all claimants to send verified statements and security details to N. R. Holman at Gull Lake Saskatchewan before December 1 1912. The administrator’s solicitor is N R Hoffman Gull Lake.
