Cranbrook Progress With Electric Light and Telephone

The Cranbrook area advances with a 500 light electric plant and a soon to be running telephone exchange. The project is funded with about $4,000 in sight, and Nelson engineer W P Dickson will head the electrical work alongside a trusted local board. The venture uses Cranbrook Lumber Company power for now, with future plans for a dedicated plant.

Moyie Day in Cranbrook Adds Town to August 10 Event

Cranbrook prepares for a Moyie gala with nearly all stores closed and a special train from Cranbrook at 1.00 for Moyie passengers. Festivities include a lake dance, boating, and refreshments as residents renew friendships and welcome Moyie visitors.

Doble and Shier Arrive in Victoria From Nome

W W Doble and R G Shier passengers by the Signal to Seattle from Nome are in Victoria. They report a gloomy Nome mining scene with dry creeks and 25 000 to 28 000 residents, 4 000 to 5 000 unemployed, and widespread hardship. They note low wages, 10 percent bank discounts, rising crime, and a large barge voyage planned for Seattle.

CP R Strike Cuts Jobs in Winnipeg Fort William Area

About 500 machinists boiler-makers and fitters walked out at Winnipeg Fort William and western points after 25 workers were discharged last week. Officials blame reduced traffic and half crop for lower freight and imports while the union contends the layoff was a company blow against the union under false pretenses of reduced business.

Couple Weds in Cranbrook Presbyterian Service

Hattie May O'Dell and Arthur Wright Mooney were married Wednesday afternoon at Knox Presbyterian Church in Cranbrook in a ceremony noted for its elegant decorations and prominent local guests. The couple planned an eastern tour and will be at home September 15 after a celebratory reception at Mrs. O'Dell's home.

Trial and Punishment At Brotherhood Meeting

At a B of LF meeting president Sid Arnold accused Arthur Mooney of premeditated matrimony and ordered a trial. Mooney was found guilty in the first degree and sentenced to receive a five piece silverware set from Tate the jeweler. The session ended with a brief social hour and adjournment.

Are Camping Out

Mrs. George Jemner and Mrs. John Vrezer hosted a Swansea camp last week. They entertained Mrs. Tate and her sons Fred and Kirk, Mrs. McKillop of Lethbridge, and Messrs. Bremer Frazer and Ross who praised the gathering as one of the loveliest camps on earth.
