Fire destroys Standard Lumber Plant
A major blaze destroyed the Standard Lumber mill near the town after five minutes of smoke was seen. The plant, built in 1903 at an estimated value of 410000, employed about 35 workers and ran near 15000 feet of timber daily. The fire totaled equipment and lumber but outside piles were saved. The mill was partly insured and may not be rebuilt unless timber deals succeed. Simon Taylor, the managing director, was in Yahk at the time.

The Cranbrook Rifle association held its first organizing meeting at city hall with Edward Flwell as chair. Officers elected include Edward Elwell as captain and LeFleur as secretary with A H Webster treasurer. range work estimated at $100 and a goal of 250 members. The group plans a 1000 yard range north of the city, seeks rifles and ammunition, and invites men 18 to 60 to join Beale and Elwell's office on Norbury avenue.

Miner prospects boost Whitefish basin copper potential
Joseph Ryan returned from White Fish Creek country after inspecting Evans Home Alliance Basin and Fallow groups with the Vans brothers. He found a 20 foot wide vein with clear walls and a diorite fissure vein extending over at least 1.5 miles with 23 to 28 percent copper and $5 gold per ton. He noted another 6 to 8 foot fissure vein and a diorite load 40 to 100 feet wide containing millions of tons of ore. Ryan concludes Whitefish basin and St Marys river basin are unexplored and may become major copper producers.
