The Herald urges the city council to celebrate the laying of the foundation stone for the new city hall with Mason ic honors. It suggests a civic holiday and a procession with involvement from public schools and labor groups, noting Mayor DeVere Hunt’s connection to Masonry.
A special meeting of all interested in the Agricultural Association and the annual Fall exhibition is planned for Tuesday at 8 30 PM in the Hotel Cranbrook committee rooms. Discussion will cover electing new officers, securing funds and buildings, and possible purchase or lease of park grounds with a 525 rental.
The Conference officials, after discussions, have chosen to prolong opposition to reciprocity through the winter. Sir Wilfrid Laurier is likely to be prevented from attending the imperial conference in London next month. Hon W Bowser and Hon W Rress of British Columbia are here and attended the event, believed to be principal speakers.
A conciliator meeting in Lethbridge gathered Rev COW Gordon C Ralph Conner Mcbeod and A Carter with fall district 18 and international delegates to discuss mine workers issues. The group kept a general, non controversial tone as the session adjourned with plans to resume at 2 PM for substantive board work.
The Cranbrook Liberal association held a Friday evening meeting at the Hotel Cranbrook to elect officers for the coming year. Elected: President K C Smith, Vice President A J McDermott, Secretary W Halsall, Treasurer H Kennedy, Executive committee Dr 3 King, M A Macdonald, Fol lane, Ward, Dr McSweyn, Gen Tomgarth, J F Hitchcroft, J McCallum, Horton Campbell, Jos Traut, with TS Tek, A Doyle and Davis named to the membership committee.
Friday evening features a church social with a piano, refreshments, and a varied programme. It includes musical contests and solo performances by Misses Bella Taylor Madge Robertson Stella Kerwin Gee Elsie Bent and vocalists and instrumental duets by Wanda Vincent Fink and others. The event, likely the season’s last indoor gathering, invites all friends and requests an offering for the piano fund of the Young People's Guild.
Cranbrook amateurs stage The Geisha next Thursday and Friday at the Masonic hall under limited resources. The rehearsal impressed with strong chorus work and promising leads including Mrs Paterson as the Geisha chief and Mrs Bouchard as Juliette. The cast features Miss Marion Service Miss Green Archie Raworth and others with Mr Geo D Ingram leading the orchestra for a first class score.
Ministers across the district convene Tuesday evening to transact church business. On Wednesday at 7am Et Best, ministerial candidate, preaches. the 30 minute session opens with examinations of ministers, candidates, and probationers. Laymen meet at 2:30pm for memorials and committee elections. At 8pm Rev J W Miller and Rev F J Rutherford address attendees. Memorial service for Rev George Chenoweth follows. Rev R Hughes departs to Fernie for stationing committee work with Dr W Connolly substituting July 7.
Pete Berg A. O. Swanson and Gus Holm were swept from a raft in a swift current near Burns and Jordan's camp. They struck brush and struggled ashore unharmed though chilled after their cold bath last Sunday morning.
Beaming and smiling, Wm Coulter returns from Old Oirland after a winter spent touring with Geo Stannard. He sings of Montana and Tobac co Valley beauty, sells two handled pumpkin seeds, takes eggs orders for Fred Roo, and plans a benedict reunion with old friends.
Mr Charles Unicume of Brandon and Miss Gladys Pearl Kennedy of this city were married Saturday at the Weisbrod residence by Rev BRtghes with a small guest list. After breakfast the couple left for a tour of the coast cities. Kennedy was active and well known in the Methodist church.
