An emergency meeting of Cranbrook lodge No 34 A F and A M was held with a visit from EE Chip man deputy grand master of British Columbia. Also present were H Byers Nelson district deputy and visitors from Fort Steele Moyie. The second degree was exemplified for the visitor and praised by grand lodge officers. Afterward, members adjourned to Cranbrook hotel for supper and a toast list before retiring at midnight.

Conductor Killed Cutting Freight Cars in Blairmore Yard
William Hughes longtime C P R conductor died last Saturday in Blairmore yards while cutting off two freight cars and a caboose. He slipped between cars and was crushed. his remains were sent to Albany for interment. He lived in Medicine Hat and left a wife and seven children. Mrs Hughes and her sister each lost husbands to violence within two months.

Two invalided South African Constabulary members H. H. Gardner of Nelson British Columbia and J. W. Henderson of Cranbrook British Columbia arrived aboard the Corinthian at Halifax and left for the west this afternoon. Henderson had fever and Gardner was kicked by a horse. They say Canadians are held in good regard by imperial officers in South Africa.
