The 24th May celebration will feature Highland dances with two age classes. Elder dancers compete in four events. younger dancers in three. Entries come from Calgary, Fernie, Trail, and local districts. Judge Miss Jean Gauld of Calgary, Western Canada champion, may perform exhibition dances.
Miss Eva Weston of Cran Brook completes a typing and bookkeeping course at Hollingshead Business College Calgary. She wins a silver medal for 50 wpm and bronze for 60 wpm. In a Calgary United Typewriters contest she places second in novice and third overall with 13 errors in 960 words and 98.7 percent accuracy.
The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada 1925 statement reports net profits of 11 215 000 after charges, earnings 33 666 201, total assets 35 213 061, and surplus of 8 723 974. Cash rises to 1 152 882, investments in gilt edged bonds reach 5 021 511, and capital stock grows to 12 675 300 with a vanished 1 000 000 loan.
The regular Women’s Institute meeting will be held April 6 at 3 PM in K of P Hall. Mrs. Willis will discuss Educational Problems and Better Schools, with Mrs. Harrison singing and afternoon tea. Prizes added to the Flower Show for bread and cooking, plus donations from Rennie’s Seed Co. and Royal Household Flour Co. Acknowledgments to Crippled Children’s Fund contributors and a report on the Mount Logan expedition voyage to Australia New Zealand Tasmania and return via San Francisco.
The Cranbrook Rod and Gun Club held an executive meeting to push opening Smith Twin and Rock lakes on April 15, instead of the usual April 30 closure. They plan a May 24 trap shoot with the G W V A and are coordinating hatchery visits and cross-club communications to boost local sport fishing activities.
Mrs. Mary Harmas wife of Michael Harmas died Sunday at Fort Steele from blood poisoning. She had lived in Fort Steele briefly, previously resided in the district since 1915, and leaves five children. Funeral was Monday from St Marys Church with interment at Cranbrook.
Good Friday and Easter schedule across Christ Church St Andrews Wycliffe Fort Steele and St John the Divine Fort Steele. Morning Prayer Holy Communion Evensong Baptismal and Confirmation classes listed with times across multiple days including Easter Monday and Easter Eve decor.
The United Church of Cranbrook has purchased four adjoining lots at the corner of Louis Street and Garden Avenue opposite W. S. Santo. The purchase addresses space constraints since union, with plans to build later, though no immediate construction steps are planned.
Bonding authority comes from Golden A P Denby of Vancouver. The MacLean group of mineral claims sits on No 4 Creek opposite the Lead Queen property from Wendell MacLean's Calgary estate. Located about 16 miles from Brisco station on the Kootenay Central CP line, the property yields silver lead ore and was discovered long ago by David MacLean. It remained idle for years.
The Cranbrook district agriculturist Mr A L Hay returns after an eight weeks East trip. He attended the Canadian Swine Breeders Association meeting in Toronto on February 10 and later the Canadian Cooperative Wool Growers meeting March 24–26. He aided the Kamloops bull sale securing four stanchions of Herefords and Shorthorns. He notes East banks of snow and praises Cranbrook milk keeping. News of Maurice Godderis's death reaches the district.
Miss E. McGregor field secretary for United Church in Canada urged strong support for missionary work citing Go ye into the world and preach the gospel. She shared stories of prairie missionaries among Indian women, church growth, and Japan's Christianizing influence, stressing duty and church renewal.
George G. Peters 55, longtime P Burns & Co. executive, died last Thursday at the Mayo Brothers Institute in Rochester Minnesota after cancer treatment. A St Thomas Ont. native, he lived in Nelson and Cranbrook before managing branches in Ymir, Cranbrook, Pincher Creek, and Prince George. He leaves Mrs Peters two daughters and a grandson. he was a Knights of Pythias member.
Cranbrook Lodge No. 86 held a ceremony during which Past Exalted Ruler Bro. Clark was presented with a jewel for his service. Exalted Ruler Willis praised Clark's contributions while Clark thanked the lodge. Secretary A B Longman resigned citing geographic reasons. resignation accepted with regret amid tributes to his service.
At the Methodist Church on Friday last J C Emslie, soon to depart the city for Kamloops, was presented with his warrant as Assistant Scout Master. Emslie, a King’s Scout, has long aided the Scout movement here and was praised by Major H B Hicks the District Commissioner for his fine ideals and assistance. J F Scott, president of the local Scout Association, and the assistant District Commissioner, also spoke in similar terms.
Voters must register before April 3 to be eligible in provincial elections this year. Dominion voters may use the provincial list if already listed or added since last fall. The list closes this year for new registrations. those not voting in 1924 are dropped.
Miss McGregor stressed the need for missionary effort among Chinese communities at our doors. She cited examples of their growing interest and generous giving to support the church, saying the cross of Christ must be visible to the nations to draw them to faith.
Tavermere B C March 26 Tuesday the twenty third was Boys night at Pynelogs residence of His Honor R Randolph Bruce the lieutenant governor when he gave open house to Windermere district Great War Veterans Association members and presented a home desk writing set to Bruce as Honorary President. Comrade Seaton spoke and Bruce replied then songs solos pianola gramophone and piano were performed before the group thanked the host and left for Victoria via Golden.
A Tuesday banquet at K P Hall will honor district junior judging teams from the past two years led by A L Hay. Presenters include Farmers Institute Agricultural Association and Stock Breeders Association with wives of directors hosting. Medals from Coast fairs will be awarded. N A Wallinger to present. Tickets 50 cents.
Fred Starkey of Nelson, Board of Trade commissioner and Department of Mines representative, visited the Wembley Exhibition in England and traveled home via Victoria. He showcased British Columbia mining conditions, especially in the Kootenays, to inform visitors there about the province’s resources.
The Cranbrook bowling tourney concluded with LO.O.P. defeating Beehives 2506 to Les at City Bowling Alley while ELK. won second in division two at the YMCA. T. J. Morin led with 637 across three strings at City Alleys.
