New Court Trial For Bigamy In London Case

John James Fraser known as John Fraser faced a Middlesex jury on a bigamy indictment. Certificates alleged two marriages to Mary Ann Bliss and Sarah, with a clownish bridesmaid witness and a widow recounting a marriage, while Fraser claimed widower status and minimal property. The jury found him guilty after Mr. Sergeant Arabin’s summing up.

Middlesex Sessions Disposes of Pauper Settlement Appeals

The Middlesex Sessions before B Roeu and a full Bench sat from 10 oclock and spent the day disposing of appeals and petitions mainly relating to pauper settlements, which were of no public interest. The Grand Jury also sat and returned about 80 bills.

Admiralty Court Proceedings and Eastern China Trade Notes

Yesterday the Court of Admiralty heard cases for seamen’s wages on the Neptune, with judgments deferred. A Calcutta excerpt discusses British shipping efforts on China’s eastern coast, praising the Sylph for rescuing Chinese sailors and noting an Edict discouraging foreign contraband ventures. Also reported is the Medea steam vessel launch at Woolwich Dockyard, the largest ship built for the Crown, and a note that King Louis IX viewed Falaise ruins by torchlight while en route to Cherbourg.
