East India Company Tea Sale Opens At India House

The East India Company's quarterly tea sale begins at the India House with substantial demand for bohea and other grades. This is the last two sales under the Company before the India Bill provisions take full effect, with December and March auctions to follow and trading privileges ending in April. About 8,400,000 lbs of tea are declared, boheas totalling 1,500,000 lbs with strong interest. price firsts range, and duty adjustments apply to teas sold under 2s per lb. The sale continues for several days as bohea prices rise and overall demand remains active.
