Brave British tars rescue boat crew at sea off Hydra
In August the Madagascar dispatched Otto and Elliot with twelve men to crew a boat near Hydra. A blue light signaled their position, the boat capsized, and Otto saved a non swimmer, then freed the rigging, salvaged paddles from boat lining, and all crew endured six and a half hours in the water. They were rescued by a Greek schooner and towed to Spezzia. Captain Lyons praised their discipline and courage. Otto said they rowed guard all night to prevent anyone losing his hold.
