Napoleon's First Campaign in Corsica In 1769
In June 1769 two Corsican leaders Paoli and Bonaparte plotted in a cave as French forces under Count de Vaux pressed a rebellion. Letizia Ramolini, soon to be mother, urged them to fight on. The next day Pont Novo saw a French setback, and on August 15, 1769, Letizia gave birth to Napoleon in Ajaccio.
