Quaker Stranger’s Fradulent House Let Hustle Ends in Arrest

A young man dressed as a Quaker deceived Cheltenham landlord Mr. Morris by renting a house for 251 per year and paying with items bought from Wood and Barnard. He fled after borrowing 201 from Mr. Morris to pay Neighbour Wood for a bill. Thomas Carver was later captured in Bourton-on-the-Water and committed for trial. Esther Brain, accused of arson on a Monmouth farm, was jailed after a fire destroyed a barn, horse, and property.
