Shipwrecks and storms lash Sussex coast with wrecks and loss

The Friends of Sunderland bound for Jersey wrecked at Eastbourne with most crew bodies laid to rest by parish officers. A dismasted vessel seen passing up channel, lifeboat efforts hampered by heavy seas. In Felpham, Bognor, Chichester and Langstone harbours extensive storm damage reported. The brig Dove sank at Del Quay after stranding, and the John and Susan weathered the gale into the Downs.
