Letter to editor on Ireland and Scotland associations
A reader's May 13 letter praises the Courier for its stance against associations seen as dangerous in Ireland and Scotland. The writer notes a meeting on a duty on apéritifs aimed at Ireland, mentions the Thatched House meeting, and says Scottish Members sought to excuse themselves after visiting the Exchequer to temper their positions.

Lost money recovered after drunken youth at Covent Garden
A well dressed young man was found intoxicated in a Covent Garden yard and brought to the watchhouse. Police recovered two 100 bank notes and a gold watch from him, later traced to a lodging and to a Camberwell oyster house where a waiter was identified as handling his money. The case ended with the magistrate praising the police for their search.
