Celebration of the Duke of Northumberland's Birthday in Newcastle
A crowd of about eighty gentlemen met at the Rooms in Newcastle upon Tyne to celebrate the Duke of Northumberland's birthday on Good Friday. Colonel Cautsox chaired, with Lord Decrzs and Mayor George Forster present. The event featured singing and wines, ending in cheerfulness. George Carroll reported a prior win of 21,000 Consols in a lottery and anticipates similar luck in a new draw starting the 17th, with 4,007 prizes and unusually cheap chances at 14 guineas for a whole ticket and one pound for a sixteenth.
