Ship Owners plan rejected by legislature on emigration levy
A notice from the General Ship Owners' Committee reports that a proposed winnage duty on arriving Quebec vessels with passengers was rejected by the Legislative Council. An Act passed later requires masters of ships arriving at Quebec or Montreal with passengers cleared from UK after April 15, 1832 to pay 58 currency per embarked passenger with sanction, or full duty without sanction. The document lists directors and notices on fire, life offices, and other business items, including Manchester warehouse lease, Oathwell residence sale, and various trade notices.
