Robbery by a banker's clerk at Lombard Street

James Lionchbury a banker's clerk was indicted for stealing a 10 pound Bank of England note belonging to Messrs Wanbury bankers of Lombard Street. During balancing of accounts a deficit appeared and Lionchbury admitted taking a 10 percent note after claiming misplacement. He had worked over twenty years with good character. The jury convicted with a mercy recommendation and he was sentenced to seven years transportation.
