A fragmentary record shows Lords discussing Municipal Corporations Ireland Bill and Ireland reform. Distress petitions from Bradford area and Paisley are noted, with ministers debating mining reform and female employment in mines and relief fund administration. The Customs Duties Bill timing is also questioned.
The Lords debated measures including the Birmingham Free Grammar School Estate Bill and the Bishop of Derry's Estate Bill, which were read a third time and passed. The Ross and Cromarty Court House Bill was read a second time and the Dean Forest Poor Bill was read a third time and passed. Their lordships adjourned at half past seven.
The session opened with the Speaker in chair. Debates covered the Ireland education system, Maynooth grants, standard of value, and a range of bills. Sir R Peel outlined treaties with Texas while MPs pressed for copies of ukases on Poland, criticizing Russia for curtailing Polish independence and urging parliamentary protest and greater information. Greenwich Hospital Schools were scrutinized, with calls for independent inspections and transparency of naval education.
