Petition and Machinery Debate in Lords Session
In the House of Lords on Monday June 6, Earl Grosvenin presented a petition against Machinery. He argued that without Machinery those employed would lack work. Earl Lauderdale warned against the cry to abolish Machinery, saying opponents risk ruin. The petition was ordered to lie on the table. The Military and Naval Oaths Bill was read a second time and committed for tomorrow. The Irish Sheriffs’ Bill and Clerks of the Peace Fees Bill passed through committees and were reported without amendment. Further consideration of the Saving Banks Bill was postponed until tomorrow.

Habeas Corpus Suspension Bill debate and amendments
The Lords discuss extending the Habeas Corpus Suspension Bill to March 1 1818 and consider Lansdown’s alternative December 31 proposal. They debate governance powers, reporting on visitation rights, and pledge assurances as to humane use of extraordinary powers.
