Lords Debate on Belgium Netherlands Treaty Strains Union
In Taraspar on May 26 the Lords debated the Belgium Netherlands treaty and the Dutch question. Earl Aberdeen warned against pressuring Holland, argued the treaty oversteps sovereignty, and urged cautious mediation rather than coercion. Proponents of the treaty defended allied aims and warned against French-friendly diplomacy undermining Britain.
