Foreign Intelligence from Smyrne on Greek fate and Russia
From the Courrier de Smyrne Nov 22 and Saint Petersburg reports, political maneuvering over Greece and the Adrianople treaty is debated. The piece critiques Russian diplomacy, claims the treaty blocks and distorts old privileges for Moldavia Wallachia and Servia, and warns the new state’s boundaries may hinge on cabinet deals. In Stuttgart an interior ministry ordinance prepares police for the States Assembly opening on the 15th.

Dover Snow Blocks Inland Mail Route to Kent Towns
In January a heavy snow and strong winds halted inland mail travel from London to Dover and surrounding towns. The London road was drifted ten to twelve feet, making coaches impracticable. Mail guards rode with bags and firearms to Dover Folkestone Hythe and Romney, stages struggled through drifts, and communication to Deal and Folkstone was blocked. The packet service failed with no French vessel, but Government dispatches arrived by estafette boat. Snow thaw improved some routes, but many roads remained blocked and travellers often had to walk parts of their journey.

France Judge Acquits Woman in Napoleon Credulity Case
At the Correctional Police of Paris on the 18th a woman named Voisin was charged with swindling two men by claiming Napoleon was alive and concealed in France. She had persuaded a law student to give 420 francs and linen for an aide de camp, promising favors to a porter’s wife. The accused’s counsel argued the story might be true if Napoleon’s death was unproved. The President dismissed that point, and Voisin was acquitted.
