Negotiations at Constantinople on Armistice and Amnesty
Vienna reports from December 26 describe how, after five hours, three ministers reached agreement on restoring relations and armistice with insurgents but failed over amnesty terms. Ambassadors pressed for rapid intervention and firmans. Divan placed protections under the Porte and set a special commission to handle legal matters while opening embargoes and allowing ships to enter and depart.

Riderless horse causes comic disruption in Falkirk parade
Ancient tale recalls a brewer's wheeled horse dragging a sledge and barrel through Falkirk streets during drill. The riderless animal, startled by a marching troop, cut into line with sledge and brewer, prompting a jovial commendation from the commanding officer. The piece then notes Mr Buckingham's Atheneum journal and renewed reviews.
