The Navy Office announces contracts for supplying New Zealand hemp for delivery over the current and following two years. Tenders, with a sample and tender form available at the Office, must be received by 1 PM on the day of the treaty. G. Smith signs the notice as official.
From the Moniteur and Messager des Chambers Feb 19 summaries Paris authorities issue an ordinance forbidding public assemblies in streets, dispersing gatherings with police or armed force, arresting those resisting officers, and naming enforcement across Seine department. Also notes removal of fleur-de-lis from Palais de Justice, remarks on Café St Germain l Auxerroin, and foreign financial market updates from Perigueux and Paris.
Shipping movements include Vansittart Repulse and other vessels passing the Downs. Arrivals and ship conditions noted for several vessels with leaky hulls and damaged rudders. American papers report a murdered ship near St Domingo and a possible influx of money. Paris unrest culminates in the overthrow of the Duke of Berry statue and the desecration of the mausoleum.
In Paris the Chamber of Deputies hears how the ministry may shift, with Odillon Barrot set to replace Montalivet and Real to take Baude’s place.
