Elgin Papers and Tweddell Manuscripts Contested Claim
A London article defends Lord Elgin against accusations of withholding John Tweddell’s papers and drawings. It details earlier shipwreck losses, custody by Thornton, and later transfer to England via Carlyle and others, asserting Tweddell’s manuscripts were transmitted and preserved despite damage.
