Interference in Office Appointments Recalls 1831 Case
A letter to a Committee member reveals a past interference in appointing the son of storekeeper Lawrence to a junior clerk vacancy. Ellice questioned the merit, Church cited the father's poverty and the son's diligence, and the appointment went to the son. The dialogue places August 1831 as the timing.
