Mrs Royall Convicted as a Common Scold in Washington

Chinese Hill Dogs Harass Canton Immigrants in Poonyu District

The Cantoy Register reports the Poonyu magistrate denounces a class from eastern Canton who settle near roads and burial grounds as visitors or residents. They form mat sheds, then expand with kin, and some are lawless banditti called hill dogs who extort funeral fees, desecrate graves, or steal stones and ground.
