A Wednesday gathering at Hanover-square Rooms led M. Lafontaine to describe his mesmerism attempts. An English audience demanded proof as a youth was revealed in an altered state. Captain Nevil tested the subject for half an hour with no clear effects, while attendees grew impatient and called the demonstrations inadequate or fraudulent.
