An 1840 London ad for Savory and Sons appeals for customers to Cornhill opposite the Bank of England, offering a vast stock of London made watches with own inspection, warranties, and 25 percent discounts. It lists silver and gold cases, various lever and detached lever models, and notes second-hand pieces.

Post Office tattoo fraud test shocks officials

A master chemist demonstrated obliterating the royal postmark using a chemical application and a profile from a letter to counterfeit mail. The scheme, tested from Liverpool to Jamaica, exposed weaknesses in post office security and prompted the Postmaster General to consider stronger measures to prevent such fraud.
