Meeting rejects Spanish Cortes Bonds liquidation proposal

A London gathering at the City of London Tavern on April 19 1881 chaired by Thomas Weeding resolves unanimously to reject Spanish government proposals for liquidating Cortes Bonds. It vows to oppose 8 percent ar repos and to seek equity in future settlements, praising London Stock Exchange prudence and urging continued good faith. King's Levee at St James's Palace Held in Grand Style

Lord Erskine Arrives and departs Calais via Salamander

Last evening His Excellency Lord Erskine, the British minister to Munich, with Lady Breakine and their two children, arrived at Wright's Hotel and this morning embarked on the Salamander for Calais. Also aboard were passengers aboard the Spitfire to Ostend and the Crusader with Government dispatches and several named travelers from Calais. The Sovereign steam vessel and Fury from Ostend are reported in the roads.
