Don Carlos Driven From Spain by French Forces
A correspondent reports Don Carlos and his family being driven across the frontier into France after French troops disarmed his followers. The retreat followed a night march through Basque Navarra, with skirmishes near Urdax and Elisondo, and a cordial meeting at the frontier with the Duke de la Victoria. The narrative condemns Don Carlos and lauds the secours-led retreat as a restoration of peace and dignity to Spain while noting broader Swiss cantonal reforms and cantonal elections to follow.

Bath market weights and measures case provokes moral debate
In Bath a man who bought and a woman who sold potatoes faced a magistrate under a new weight and measures act. The woman piled tubers above the rim by about two inches, prompting commentary that English law enforces a level or underfilled measure rather than a full measure. The inspector aimed to enforce selling by weight, not levy fines, highlighting the clash between morality and statute.
