Monday evening May 29 stock markets opened steady with Consols at 814 Money and Account and little business. Spanish securities rise on dividend hopes with three per cents at 229 and fives at 13. There were few arrivals. Overland Mail news anticipated. Continental Mails show pacific French notes. Lloyds notes ten accidents charted. brig Henrietta Sophia Coalladen ashore on Schulau Bar full of water likely wreck. Danish troop withdrawal could bring commercial benefits. French finances face large revenue shortfalls.
W J Bland apologizes for addressing readers about the Shuttleworth Tea Sale List and the dispute with Mr. Harding. He plans to publish a point by point reply after Wednesday and to challenge the antagonist in a supplementary sheet. He signs from Mineing Lane dated 29 May 1848.
Arrivals dated May 24 include ships from Hamburg and Caledonia to Gothenburg and other ports. Names such as Cara, Emma, Sir Robert Peel and de Rotterdam appear among listed vessels with multiple destinations and crews.

In Antwerp on May 25 traders report small parcels moving in Coffee and sugar with limited yields. Brazil coffee sales show few bags changing hands, 300 bolts of American Cotton sold without price. Rice demand cautious with only small lots sold due to high holder asks. London exchange quoted at 26 75 to 25 724 and Hadburg 1864.
May reports from Havre detail a small cotton sale with about 400 bales at steady prices. Prices vary by quality with Louisiana, Mobile, and Georgia grades trading around 57 to 68 francs per unit, while 100 bales of Louisiana sold 66 to 80 francs. Other items include 600 salted Montevideo hides at 20 francs and Rio Coffee priced around 45 to 48 francs per quart.
