Liverpool report dated June 23 1843 notes dull sugar and coffee markets with sales of 650 birds B P 600 bags Bengal and 400 damaged Mauritius at auction. Molasses and cocoa show little activity while rice and rum see varied pricing. Indigo cassia and sago sold at auction with shell products and salpetre figures reported.
The Bristol report notes a steady sugar market with firm support across descriptions. Week sales total 600 to 700 hhda with prices from 49a for low brown to higher rates for good grocery sugars, and RAM game sales in Lees wards show better prices than last week.
Mobile May 17 Corton received since last week 6857 bales and exported 10064 bales, stock reduced by 3202 bales leaving 60145 on hand and aboard. Total receipts since Sept 1 458,450 bales, exports 410,697, last year receipts 315,661 exports 273,952. Week saw exchange weakness and bill difficulty, then demand and rate rise spurred activity with 500 bales sold Monday. By yesterday exchanges fell and Cor ton market quiet. Week's transactions estimated at 11,500 bales. Quotations: ordinary 54 to 56, middling 64, middling fair 74 to 76, fair 84 to 86. Week shows about 4 cent rise on ordinary and slight rise on others.
Savannah reports arrive and clear figures for cotton bales Upland and Sea Island. Week sales total 3429 Upland and 124 Sea Island with price ranges from 0 to 7 cents for various qualities. stock on hand 19 972 Upland and 1314 Sea Island, compared with last year’s 8873 Upland and 633 Sea Island.
Charleston May 13 The Upland Corton market steadies after holders resist lower quotes yet 2100 bales traded since midweek demand remains moderate with prices fluctuating. Week receipts 697 bags and sales 6687 bales at 5 to 74 cents. Address details note price per quarter and locality postage.
