The following are the gross receipts of traffic on the various lines of railways for the past week. Details list revenue figures by line and indicate passenger and freight earnings across routes for the period.
Hull reports a cargo of 1950 qrs linseed from the Black Sea with some offering at 45s per qr. Petersburg fine sold at 42s 8d to 47s 6d, ordinary at 38s 6d. Linseed oil fluctuates from 32s to 35s 6d cwt with U S price rises noted, olive oil quiet, whale oil 34 per ton, tack of rapeseed and other imports listed. extensive Liverpool imports and commodity prices across guano bones cakes and other fats.
A list of ships passing Gravesend is noted with vessel names such as Harlequin and Providence. The Harlequin reportedly carries oil and 547 elephants teeth. Other vessels carry cargoes including potatoes, wine, and sundries.
In Belfast the past week was dry enabling outdoor work with early planting of spring wheat and increased potato cultivation. Prices for butter and oats rise while American provisions stay in demand. potato supply remains liberal with seed and table prices fluctuating little despite demand pressure.
All imports report two vessel arrivals from Odessa Riga Lisbon Fayal and St Michaela plus three ships from Antwerp Rotterdam St Micheala Terceira Palermo Gravelinea Civita Vecchia or Brimetone totaling many goods including barley rice whale flax hops leather oil butter and fruit such as oranges with quantities listed in barrels bags bales and cases, reflecting a busy port trade.
France shows improved customs receipts for January and stronger demand for exports including wool, silk, hides, porcelain, and refined sugar. Imports rise for cotton and mahogany while rum and colonial sugar trade lag. Postmaster General data note vast letter distribution in 1849. Date Feb 21 1850.
