The Volant carries 24 609 bushels Rough Rice and other ships pass Gravesend with cargoes including wine flour sundries wool oil cocoa and both Congou and Souchong teas. Glencairn stranded off New Romney Ist, hull underwater with cargo of silk goods and Congou tea.
The Liverpool report notes moderate demand this week with spinners favored early and holders firmer at close. Speculators acquired 11 770 American 230 Pernam 200 Bahia 300 Egyptian and 970 Surat. exporters bought 660 American and 60 Surat.
The coffee trade slips with Jamaica and Laguayra offerings down 2s to 3s per cwt while cocoa ginger pepper and pimento stay slow. Rice and saltpetre see light activity. nitrate of soda imports and guano remain small in volume. Indica dyes, logwood and tung stores hold prices, and hides, tar, and tallow report steady or modest activity amid broader dullness.
The Bristol report notes extremely small weekly sales and a dull market. West India sugar remains scarce in first hands while three Mauritius vessels and one Calcutta ship discharge cargoes, easing supply concerns. Rum inquiries appear, with second hand parcels sold at high rates amid a generally steady price level.
