A faded ad page fragment lists metals exports to India for the first 16 months of 1844 and 1845. It also promotes Grimstone eye snuff and various Quay Place addresses, with medical and cosmetic claims, typical 19th century patent medicine language.
The act introduces new duties on imports including wheat barley beer oats rye peas and beans from foreign countries with rate bands tied to quarterly wheat price data and a separate schedule for silk and silk goods with duties up to twenty five percent plus specific commodity rates. The measures take effect immediately with stricter rates slated from February 1 1849 for wheat barley beer oats rye pease beans and related meal products and impose a broad range of duties on manufactures including silk textiles and related goods.
A fragmented tariff list details duties on leather goods boots shoes calashes and trim, linen and woollen textiles, cambrics and lawns. It lists penalties and reductions for woollen manufactures and steel goods, with references to printers ink and other manufactured items. Notices urge orders via W Horrocks 42 Mine Lane Wyvern Royal Exchange and publishers in the United Kingdom.
