Queenstown light arrivals recorded.
London markets close on a very quiet note with little activity across commodities. West India sugar sales total 448 for the week, with some prices down 6d from last Friday, while coffee, salts, rum, and linseed show mixed or modest moves. cotton remains in demand with weekly operations and prices broadly steady. Domestic goods, turmerics, myrabolams, and various oils and fats trade with firm or firmer tones in places, and provisions such as Irish butter and foreign butter shift slightly in price amid uneven demand.
On Friday December market activity showed cattle sold more readily with full terms, while sheep and lambs moved slower and calves brought a small decrease. Pig trade remained at prior values. Arrivals included livestock from Germany and Holland and various English counties with scattered figures for beasts sheep calves and lambs.
London markets show subdued West India sugar demand with prices near last week. Trade for Mauritius Bengal and Madras fairs and stocks rise in Mauritius and Bengal while home use intake grows. Coffee and cocoa demand remains firm abroad with Jamaica and Ceylon prices tracked. pepper and cassia notes indicate steady markets and modest consumption. Prices for orange notes and bulk commodities reflect cautious activity and rising stock levels across ports.
