A chaotic listing of sales dates and inventories for commodities and animal skins. Items include mahogany and spices, wines and tobaccos, various pelts such as raccoon mink and otter, wool from Australian andVD Lands, oils, woods, ginger, arrowroot, and other goods. Auction dates span August and September with multiple lots and quantities.
Prices and market notes from Faipay Evaentne dated August 16 cover foreign and domestic goods. Letters from Baltic ports report little news while Lloyds arrivals were moderate. Bond prices, Bank of England actions, exchequer bills, and various commodities including sugar, coffee, rice, cotton, spices, and oils are listed with current bids and recent trades.
The column lists ships passing Gravesend and HOLYHEAD, with cargo details from Sophia Calcutta Jamaica, British Queen Hambro Bremen and others. Notable cargos include 660 hhds sugar, 220 punas ram, 40 tons speltter, 40 tons bark, 260 bags, 1340 hams, 40 casks spirits, 70 bales tobacco, 30 serons cochineal, and assorted merchandise. Also notes voyage legs to Liver pool Glasgow and Clyde bound bark St Mary with sugar, ram, vamarinds, ginger and more.
This morning's market shows a moderate English Wheat demand with higher asking prices but no settled sales. Foreign Wheat trades were minor but holders stayed firm, Beans and Peas unchanged, Flour steady, oats short in Britain but abroad arrivals ending. A 1s 6d duty on Rye remains. Wheat price expected to fall to 10s 8d per quarter next week.
The Havre and Marseille wires show cotton and coffee moves with varied prices in August. New Orleans notes a steady to firm cotton market with light stock and recent exports. tobacco sales rise as buyers reengage. Montreal ash prices steady, with higher exchange rates and tighter credit.
