Australian WWI Veteran Recalls Frontline Service and Injuries
A youthful Australian veteran, John Lowe, described his front line experiences in England and France during the Great War. He served as a driver of armored cars, faced shell blasts, and recounted tending wounded, incineration of the dead, and witnessing heavy German artillery. He was wounded by shrapnel but regained health, later learning of his brother's death, and planned to return to the front before his mother’s appeal led him to stay in Australia.
