Council bans rubber floats on beaches under lifeguard patrols

The Slive Council met to cooperate with the North Coast Branch of the Ski Lifesaving Association to prohibit rubber floats on beaches under council control except when lifesavers are on patrol. Nine more recruits joined the Coity Harbour AWM unit, bringing total strength to 219. New Commanding Officer RP Wedge attended the parade and bandsmen were enlisted.

Charity Event Sounds in Aid of Presbyterian Church Building

An afternoon gathering organized by Mrs TF Hodge and Mrs C Leben raised funds for the Presbyterian Church new building project in the Assembly Hall at the High School. Attendance was light yet the event was enjoyed, with Miss Lora Weekes named the most expert at the prize.

Coffs Water Supply Report Notes Water Loss and April Usage

At a Wednesday shire meeting the turncock reported about 7000 gallons lost through a brown joint in the Robin Street Gin main. Dead trees near the gravity main have been removed to stop the hazard. April saw only one cow heelian versus 21 last year, and total water consumption reached 299000 gallons more than April prior. Water pumped for the month totaled 2090000 gallons with power use at 1980 minds.

Miss Suveroft has retired from Colfs High School as a science teacher following her marriage last week. Mr Elstone will fill the vacancy and arrive to begin duties early next week. Bellingen Defeats Dorrigo In Dyer Cup tennis clash

Last weekend Bellingen tennis team beat Dorrigo by 9 rubbers 16 sets 121 games in the Dyer Cup. Bellingen Shire Council set annual petrol pump fees with single pumps at a fixed rate and dual pumps at 50s. A Hamey Sawtell received permission to replace a single pump with four dual pumps. Shark Attacks Angler After Long Fight for Big Catch

Jack Gregor of Park Seay wrestled a fierce fight with a 30 lb jewfish after a 60 lb shark seized his line near the beach. He lost the waterlogged catch as the shark tore the body from the head. Earlier the same night he landed another jewfish weighing about 30 pounds at the same spot.
