The Country Women's Association opened on Tuesday with 800 voting delegates as four days of sessions began. They debated 93 resolutions on topics including petrol prices, taxation, refrigerator sales tax, free schooling, telephone rates, maternity hospitals, censorship, and housing verandahs. Governor Northcott opened the event with the principal librarian John Metcalfe in attendance.
The Urban Committee and Shire Engineer face insurmountable cost to move surface water from the Meadow Street basin. The Maclean Street to Coffs Creek drain is too small for efficient drainage and floods Mrs. Catherine Smith’s Scarba Street property, with legal action anticipated. The open drain from Maclean Street culvert via Simsons property to High and Murdoch Streets remains the only option, but the required funds are unavailable.

Assistant Shire Engineer Lionel Fowler proposed chipping grass and covering chips with copper sulfate screenings, to be implemented when available.
