Early reminiscences of Upper Orara School history
Burling recalls Upper Orara School origins in 1882 with Sarah Edwards as first teacher. He notes self-built walls, shingle roof, bush-track pupils, early bridges, and dangers from floods. The school fostered picnics, concerts, Empire Day, and later produced teachers, bank staff, and war veterans, aided by a strong P and C.
