Burdens of Men on the Land Oppose Rate Rise
At the Dorrigo Shire Council June meeting Dr Sid Hooson argued against a one penny general rate rise for 1950, saying it would burden the poorest farmers who toil hardest. He noted dairy prices rise little compared with grain and wool, while costs rise sharply. Dr A Boultwood recalled long farming experience and urged localized rates, but the council carried a motion for a 1d rise across the Shire.
