Sleepers and timber truck shortages hit Coffs Harbour area
Mr Garside told deputies unloading trucks at Coffs Harbour worsened the timber truck shortage. A new rule blocks trucks within 50 miles of the port from delivering timber there. Mr Williams urged more trucks to load at Nambucca centers as mills varied from 8 000 to 25 000 super feet weekly. He noted 352 trucks were used for sawn timber last year plus sleepers girders and other goods. The Department said it ordered 2 500 trucks including funds from Germany, aiming for relief this year.
