In Cobram district 26 year old Francis Michael McCluskey died instantly when a tractor with a cultivator overturned after an apparent snag with a bridge on the Katamatite road. Passenger Joseph Donohoe escaped unharmed. McCluskey leaves two widows and a young son. funeral drew a large crowd from Scots Church to Cobram cemetery.
Peter William Cain faced the Court of Petty in Cobram for driving under the influence on August 22. He was convicted and fined £5 with £2 13s 6d costs, and his licence was canceled. The magistrate commended witnesses for their public-spirited testimony.
A Barooga footballer set out last week to break a record at Ngawe by picking fruit from a large orange tree. He finished with 31 cases, not counting fruit eaten, which could push the total near 32. A humorous note urges Tom to try again next year to maybe break the orchard record.
