Warner Baxter and Joan Bennett star in Walter Wanger's Vogues of 1938 a Technicolor musical comedy shown in Cobham Saturday night. The film follows Manhattan fashion and romance with Baxter as a leading couturier and Joan Bennett as a debutante who marries a millionaire to become a mannequin. Also in the cast are Mischa Auer Helen Vincent Jerome Cowan and Margaret Gratu.
Cobram East annual school picnic held in Barrington paddock attracted many visitors. Committee led by Mr Hall and Mr Donnellen organized events with prize lists for boys and girls across age groups and various races. Special thanks were given to the Barringtons for use of their paddock and afternoon tea provided by local ladies.
Despite gusty weather a successful Yarraweyah picnic was held on Thursday. Senior boys results crowned D Houlihan first and A Mudge second, senior girls D Haynes and T Thomson led, junior boys P Kenny and J Kenny, junior girls E Umbers and H Umbers. Egg and spoon events noted.

The Numurkah Shire Council discussed a dinner and ball with ticket prices of 10/6 and 7/0 for admission. McDonnell questioned charging for functions beyond bare expenses. Ratepayers built the ball and council entertainments faced potential resentment due to limited guest numbers.
