JERSONS in neighboring towns and districts urged to mail ads on Mondays to ensure insertion in the Current issue with 20 direct mail to Cobram from Melbourne and G.W. towns on Wednesdays. Changes due by 10.30 pm Tuesday at the office. Ross Bros, Proprietors.
Rainfall Wednesday night reached 47 points. H Roe named agent for Horwood Baghs Ltd in Cobram area. Goulburn Valley by election schedules set with Mr J G B McDonald addressing voters in Strathmerton Katamatite Cobram. A Mission at St Joseph's Cobram and a skeleton weed destruction demo near Berrigan organized by TP Taylor. Pay issues for relief workers on Berriquin irrigation scheme noted with MLA R T Ball asked to liaise with the Commission.
The Cobram Agricultural Society annual ball transformed the Mechanics Institute with pink mauve and green streamers, imitation flowers and frescoes of peach blossoms. Sixteen thousand artificial flowers, crafted by convent and state school children, decorated the hall while Gervasoni's Orchestra drew encores. One hundred twenty couples attended supper. tables glowed with daffodils and mauve fin, and a fine supper was served. Secretaries Miss R. od Gemmell and Miss O. Ritchie and the committee earned praise for the event.
A packed hall in Yarroweyah bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Cantlon and Miss Cantlon after 25 years of service. Fr Ells and Dr Christie praised their community work at Cobram and Nathalia, noting the couple’s post office and social contributions. Family, fire brigade ties, and local figures lauded their dedication, with guests presenting notes, a handbag, and a wristwatch as keepsakes and best wishes for retirement.
Katamatite Club held a successful meeting with Some Gag defeating Vagabond and Kialla Kate besting Rebel Girl in early rounds. Awards went to L Dwyer of Murchison for the Morrison Medal. Murray League semi finals saw Finley beat Berrigan 10 15 to 5 10 as Tocumwal and Jerilderie advance. Cobram Cycle Club reported fast times in a 20 mile road race with Armstrong, Bell, and Jordan among top finishers.
Cobram Mechanics Institute committee hosts an old-time dance on Thursday with Gervesoni’s orchestra, music follows, and supper served. A death notice from Elwood records Mrs Cumming, mother of Mr D miming of Lalalty. Also Friday night Miss Sadie Chamberlain wed Mr M O'Dwyer. Bank staff changes include Bartie Marx moving to Cobram and W Mitchell transfer noted.
