The Melbourne Leader notes a trend toward agricultural and commercial contests, mentions the Derby and social options, and reports on a fire at Mar Po Duffy’s residence. It covers wool auctions by Lalgety and Co., grain market moves, and wheat price fluctuations in a brisk, period-voice summary.
The report describes a touring party led by Mr Mathieson and officials including Messrs Well Curtis AP W Stewart MeFilren Similion and AOE Ross, examining platform work on the west side yards. An 1898 Melbourne letter from Tabitha Bay extols Dr Williams Pink Pills for curing anemia and fever after a Western Australia illness. She cites restored health, resumption of work as a machinist, and recommends the pills to friends. The note includes instructions to obtain six boxes and mentions the pill branding and distributor at Fitzroy.
