Katunga won the toss and batted, Koopman delivering six wickets for 10 as Cobram bowled well. Cobram struggled early in reply, D McKenzie and W Jones stabilizing to reach 6 for 87 at stumps with Jones on 25 and McKenzie 31 not out.
The Cobram Band says it had a successful year and a sound financial balance after total expenditure of £957, including £430 for uniforms, producing a credit of £155. Band president D Y Spence praised players, uniform neatness, and committee support. Office-bearers re-elected and new committee members chosen. bandmaster Stuart Stedman and deputy R Dare retained.
Yarrawonga led by Geo Crammond won three games in the open ks tournament marking the 1953-54 season opening at Cobram Bowling Club. President Dr. S O Gregory praised greens staff and associates. Mrs Gregory and Mrs D Y Spence drew the first jack.
Cobram Cycling Club kicks off its track racing season at the show grounds next Sunday after noon. New juniors enter racing and a new novice section for seniors aims to boost participation as handicaps are set for Senior One Mile and Senior Half-mile events. Ladies auxiliary forms to support events with officers named and funds tallied from multiple activities.
The Yarroweyah C W A branch donated 27 dozen eggs to Cobram District Hospital last month. Office bearers will be elected at the next meeting and nominations are being invited.
At the St Patrick's Sports annual gathering the carnival and concert balance sheet showed a nett profit of £717 4s 6d. Dr M D O Dwyer was reelected president and emphasized maintaining high standards. Other officials were elected including Rev Fr Ellis as patron and Rev Fr Dougherty as treasurer and vice presidents.
The Consolidated School will hold a December picnic as usual with the Mothers' Club catering for about 500 children. At their last meeting the club decided to run a street stall on Friday November 6 to raise funds for the event and urged parental support.
A large crowd attended the opening of the Yarroweyah Tennis Club season despite bad weather. Fifty eight players took part in the afternoon tournament won by Mrs. Elder and Mr. Tom Kennedy of Muckatah. Ladies served tea as spectators enjoyed the event. Association matches begin next Saturday with Yarroweyah visiting Muckatah IT.
