Margaret Peggy Houlihan Yarroweyah youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs J A Houlihan announces engagement to John Robert Buncle only son of Mr R Buncle and the late Mrs Catherine Buncle Cobram in the Cobram district celebration expected with families.
Miss Gloria Evans returns from a ten day tour to Adelaide with a stop in Melbourne. Mr K McGrath of Albury is spending his annual leave with his parents Mr and Mrs W McGrath of Cobram. Miss Peggy Houlihan of Yarraweyah and Mr Jack Bunele of Convm receive best wishes on their recent engagement.
A September social at Mechanics Hall Cobram honored Miss Mary Lonergan on the eve of her marriage to Mr W Walsh of Boo manooman. Guests enjoyed dancing and musical items by local performers. Father Doherty presented a fire screen for the church choir and school. Mary thanked hosts and guests for generosity and support.
The Shire of Tungamah announces Cobram parking by-law gazetted. It defines vehicle types and limits for angle parking, five minute loading, and prohibitions to ensure free traffic flow. Fines up to £10 apply for breaches.
The Cobram Branch of the C W A held an afternoon display on September 28 to raise funds for home crafts. The event showcased hand work and antiques aged 50 to 150 years, with prizes for the prettiest jug and best bowl arrangement of artistically dried flowers. Musical items and a generous afternoon tea capped the program.
Mrs Crosby publicly thanks all who attended the function and helped the event succeed. She extends special gratitude to the artists, catering team, and all who offered assistance and support.
The Cobram Baby Health Centre Committee announced the annual meeting planned for September 21 was abandoned due to lack of attendance. With only three office bearers present, organizers warned the committee could disband if future meetings are not attended and urged members to support quarterly gatherings for the worthy cause Future Australians.
Cobram hosts its first district fat lamb and sheep sale in years on Thursday October 6 with buyers from Angliss Co Colonisl Mel Borthwick Sims Cooper Cowley Cs. and others. About 500 fat lambs and store sheep sold with strong bidding and broad support. top price 46/9 for 73 heavyweight D H Cross lambs. Next sale set for Thursday November 3 with Melbourne exporters and butchers expected.
