Reverend R A B Nicholls Th L Rector announces visits to Strathmerton Public Hall on Tuesday afternoons for interviews from 1 30 p m to 5 p m. Phone Cobram 218 for appointments. Includes Cobram Strathmerton schedule and service times 1950.
The Cobram CWA branch held its annual meeting in Mechanics Hall on November 2. Mrs. Wellington congratulated the group, gifts were exchanged, and 58 members contributed to a successful year with social events, competitions, and a charity effort that included a penny drive raising funds for hospital needs.
The St Margaret's Ladies' Guild held a farewell afternoon for Mrs Cameron the guild treasurer. Guests were welcomed with singing and piano solos by Mrs Morgan a picture contest won by Mrs Dunn. Mrs Downing the president presented flowers and spoke of Mrs Camerons service. Mrs Nicholls presented salad servers and Mrs Cameron thanked all before tea and Auld Lang Syne.
The Cobram Methodist Sunday School combined with Yarraway and Yarrawonga held their annual picnic at the Grove, Yarrawonga, with about one hundred in attendance. The day was ideal and considered a great success. The superintendent and teachers thank all helpers who contributed to the event.
Canberra government to refund the wheat tax from the No 11 Pool for 1947 48 crop. Refund set at 16 400 000 pounds plus interest. A bill will authorize early payment via the Wheat Board. McEwen to consult industry on extending stabilisation to 10 years.
The body of William Charles Cromley aged 73 of Tocumwal was found in a swamp near Chinaman's Lane about four miles from Tocumwal. He had been missing since September 19 after an extensive search and broadcast descriptions failed to locate him. A Finley fishing tripper located the body and alerted police. it was recovered and taken to Tocumwal. The deceased had no known Australian relatives.
Dancers Max Collis from the Natl Ballet and Tamara des Fontaines, a young Russian ballerina, perform Swan Lake excerpts at Cobram’s Ecachacitcs Hall on November 23. Gwendoline Wall, Melbourne contralto and Ormond Scholar, will also present with solo pianist accompaniment under CAE sponsorship.
