Strawberry Fete At Mechanics Hall Cobram

The annual Methodist Strawberry Fete will be held Saturday at Mechanics Hall Cobram with stalls and competitions and a plentiful supply of strawberries and cream. Admission is free. Tenders close on November 30 for erection of a supper room at Cobram Mechanics Institute. Plans may be inspected at W E Cassidy solicitor Station Street Cobram. Euchre party at St Josephs Hall had good attendance with prizes won by Mrs J Parnell and Mr A Dunleavy. Boobey awards went to Mr C Quick and Miss M Cantlon. Supper provided by ladies. Thieves attempted to steal motors belonging to local residents including Mr T Kelly and Mr Horsfall. one car was driven a distance before the petrol ran out and abandoned near Tocumwal. Shire Council sat long hours at its meeting, mainly debating rates, clerk appointment and tractor purchase, described as the longest meeting in 30 years. The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria warns about dangers at unattended railway crossings urging extra caution. A recent wedding at Mr and Mrs T O'Dwyer's residence drew many well-wishers and congratulatory remarks.
